The Educational Activity of Visiting National Museum of China of the Undergraduate Students of the Department of the Linguistics

On Friday afternoon, November 15th, 2019, the undergraduate students of the Department of Linguistics of 2019, led by Di Tian, went to the National Museum of China to visit the Exhibition Hall. The theme of the exhibition is “Tracing Back to Ancient Times and the Getting Enlightenment in Modern Times -- A Memorial to the 120th Anniversary of the Discovery of the Oracle Bones”.

This activity is part of the freshmen ideological education project in 2019. In order to strengthen the education of the new students, guide the students of the Department of Linguistics to firm their ideals and faiths, establish correct values, and adapt to the university study life as soon as possible, this visiting of the National Museum of China is of great significance. It can make freshmen feel the profound cultural deposits of our country, get close to find the charm of characters, deepen the understanding of their own major, and truly achieve the unity of knowledge and action.

General Secretary Xi pointed out that Chinese character is the symbol of Chinese cultural heritage. The oracle bone inscription of the Yin Ruins is dated back to mora than 3,000 years till now, however, the structure of Chinese characters has not changed all through. This kind of inheritance represents the true Chinese gene. Oracle bone inscriptions are the precious cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. It has exerted a great influence on Chinese People’s value identification, thinking mode and aesthetic concept. Characters and languages are closely related to each other. Visiting the Oracle inscriptions exhibition is a good way to enhance students’ professional quality. National Museum of China is not only the country’s supreme historical, cultural and artistic palace, but also the supreme institution that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets representative material evidence, which can fully reflect the excellent traditional Chinese culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture. This exhibition, titled “Tracing Back to Ancient Times and the Getting Enlightenment in Modern Times -- A Memorial to the 120th Anniversary of the Discovery of the Oracle Bones”, is rich in exhibits, displaying nearly 190 precious cultural relics such as oracle bone, bronze, jade and providing precious materials for freshmen to learn.

The visit lasted for 2 hours and the whole process was in order. The students all benefitted a lot.
