Professor Ping Chen As Guest Speaker of the Lecture Series on Theoretical Linguistics of the Department of Linguistics

On the afternoon of December 25th2019, Ping Chen, Chair Professor of Department of Language and Culture, University of Queensland, Australia, visited the lecture series on theoretical linguistics of the Department of Linguistics of BLCU. The title of this lecture, The Lagging of Theoretical Linguistics vs the Broad Prospect of Applied/Transdisciplinarity Research, has attracted many teachers and students from both inside and outside the university.

Professor Ping Chen distinguished the concepts of theoretical linguistics, accurately commented on the relationship between generative grammar, functional grammar and cognitive grammar. He highly appraised the historical significance of the Chomsky Revolution, and analyzed the trend of the education situation on American linguistic major. The suggestions which he offered for the construction of the Department of Linguistics was also rich and profound.
