Dr. Prof. Zhongru Xiong’s major research interests include Chinese grammar, syntax-semantics interface and comparative studies of English and Chinese grammar. His academic interests are focusing on discovering what roles that functional categories are played in syntax and semantics. He is concentrating mostly on topics like argument structures, special constructions, word class and left peripheries and so on. And till today, Professor Xiong has published more than 60 papers, 5 monographs, 1 translation (Co-translation) and 1 textbook.

 

In the past years, Prof. Xiong has been presiding over several research projects, such as General Projects of the National Social Science Fund “A Comparative Study of English-Chinese Argument Structures”, Key Projects of the National Social Science Fund “A Syntactic and Semantic Study of English-Chinese Adjectives” and Ministry of Education Planning Project “A Comparative Study of English-Chinese Nominal phrases”, etc. In 2011, his Paper “Phonological structures and the syntactic positions of functional categories in the nominal phrases” won the second prize for papers of Social Science, Literature and Art Publishing Award (social Science) of Anhui Province. And at the same time, he himself was selected as the back-up candidate of Leading Figures in Science and Technology of Anhui Province. In 2013, Prof. Xiong was chosen as the Leading Figures in Science and Technology of Anhui Province.
