On September 8th, 2019, the Department of Linguistics of BLCU welcomed the first batch of undergraduate students majoring in linguistics, and the graduate students registered at the same time. School leaders were also present at the spot: Ni Haidong, the Secretary of the Party Committee of BLCU, President Liu Li, Deputy Secretary Ma Guisheng, Vice President Zhang Wangxi, Vice President Huang Yifang, Director of the Student Affairs Office Huang Zhan, Director of the Admission and Employment Office Wang Yue, etc. They inquired about the progress of work and conveyed their greetings to new students and volunteers.

At 8:00 on September 8th, 2019, Cao Xiaoning, who is in charge of student affairs of Department of Linguistics, and graduate volunteers led by Professor Si Fuzhen, head of the department, waited early at Yifu Gymnasium to prepare for the registration of new students in 2019. In order to ensure the smooth process of the work, they have made enough preparation. At 9:00, new students started their registration one after another. Under the guidance of volunteers, the freshmen lined up in an orderly manner according to class, filling in forms and going through relevant procedures. The volunteers checked information in patience and answered questions for the freshmen. At 12:00, the registration of undergraduates was successfully completed.

At 14:00 on September 8th, the freshmen meeting was held in the Teaching Integrated Building 329. The meeting was presided over by Cao Xiaoning, head of student affairs, attended by Professor Si Fuzhen, head of the department, and Dr. Wang Wenying, who is in charge of the class. Professor Si Fuzhen gave a detailed introduction on the general situation of the “linguistics major” of the Department of Linguistics.

All the freshmen introduced themselves one by one and chose the student who is in charge of class affairs.

The class meeting has finally drew to an end. As the first batch of linguistics undergraduates, all freshmen participated in the activity of “sending future letters”. In the next four years, the faculty and students will go forward hand in hand and grow together.

At 15:30, accompanied by head teacher Wang Wenying, President Liu Li, director of student affairs Huang Zhan and head of department Si Fuzhen paid visits to some of the dormitories of freshmen of the Department of Linguistics.

On September 12th, the Department of Linguistics also organized a Mid-Autumn Festival party for newly registered undergraduate and graduate students. At the party, they recited poems, talked about the different local Mid-Autumn Festival customs, or sang songs in a peaceful and lively atmosphere.

So far, the welcoming work of undergraduate students of 2019 has been successfully completed. Full of hope and passion, all students are ready to start a new school life.
